Latest News & Updates: Making a Difference Locally and Globally
On Sunday 12 July, members of the Rotary Club of Nottingham joined volunteers, community organisations and local residents for a fantastic day at the Oliver Hind Summer Fayre.
Held at the Oliver Hind Club in Sneinton, the event was about much more than a traditional summer fayre. It was an opportunity to celebrate one of Nottingham's hidden community gems and showcase the many charities, clubs and organisations that use the facility throughout the year.
The Oliver Hind Club has been serving the people of Sneinton for generations. Originally established to provide opportunities and support for local young people, it has evolved into a thriving community hub, offering a welcoming home to a wide range of clubs, charities and voluntary organisations. Today, the Club continues to provide affordable space where people of all ages can meet, learn, socialise and access vital community services, making it an invaluable asset not only to Sneinton but to the wider city of Nottingham.
The Rotary Club of Nottingham has a long association with the Oliver Hind Club. Four members of the Club currently serve as Trustees, helping to oversee its future and ensure it continues to thrive for generations to come. Many other Rotarians have also supported the Club over the years, giving their time, expertise and practical help whenever needed. The Summer Fayre is just one example of that longstanding partnership in action.
Visitors enjoyed an afternoon packed with activities, including live music, games, crafts, face painting, refreshments and community stalls. More importantly, the event gave local organisations the opportunity to showcase the work they do every week and encouraged visitors to discover activities and services they may never have realised existed on their doorstep.
Members of the Rotary Club of Nottingham volunteered throughout the day, helping with planning, setting up, welcoming visitors, running stalls and ensuring the event ran smoothly. Their contribution reflected Rotary's commitment to strengthening communities through practical service and collaboration.
The success of the day was only possible thanks to the partnership between the Oliver Hind Club, the Rotary Club of Nottingham, DAKO Flying Angels, Epic Partners and the many other organisations and volunteers who worked together behind the scenes. It was a wonderful demonstration of what can be achieved when local organisations unite with a shared purpose.
For Rotary, supporting events such as the Summer Fayre is about far more than volunteering for a single day. It is about investing in places that matter, helping community organisations flourish, and creating opportunities for people to connect. The event perfectly reflected Rotary's ethos of Service Above Self and its commitment to working alongside partners to make communities stronger.
The Rotary Club of Nottingham would like to thank everyone who volunteered, performed, exhibited, donated or simply came along to support the event. Community events like this thrive because of people who are willing to give their time, energy and enthusiasm to make a difference.
